Professionally, a Textile Engineer, passed B Tech in Textiles from the University of Calcutta in the year 1972. Then he worked as a Textile Engineer in some industries. After being selected by the Odisha Public Service Commission, he joined the State Government Service and held many responsible positions in the government till his retirement as Additional Director of Textiles, Government of Odisha.

During his service period, he worked as Managing Director of some powerloom industries, spinning mills, and other senior positions in the handloom sector under the control of the Government of Odisha.

As a senior Level-1 Administrative and Technical Officer in the Textile and Handloom Department, he had to support the Director of Textiles, Odisha in formulating policies, overseeing statewide sector development, and managing administrative, technical, financial, and statutory operations for handlooms, powerlooms, and spinning mills. Besides, he had to supervise, plan, and implement programmes by the Director of Textiles, and monitor field operations across the zonal and divisional offices inside the state.

He had to coordinate and supervise the implementation of various state and central government welfare schemes, infrastructure development, training programmes for skill development of weavers, and technical upgradation, establishment of common facility centres, design development, colour combinations, and proper texture in the fabrics as per the domestic and international market trends. Besides, he had to oversee financial allocations, audit and utilisation of funds released by the state and central government under various schemes.

Further, he had to exercise regulatory and statutory powers as the registering officer over weavers' co-operative societies as well as Apex Organisations. He had to look after market promotion through facilitating domestic and international exposure, organisation of Expos, Exhibitions and Buyer–Seller meets for worldwide marketing of Odisha handloom fabrics, which are famous for their iconic and artistic designs along with preserving the cultural heritage.
